The Anglican dioceses of Ottawa and Ontario co-sponsored a prayer conference May 13 and 14, 2011 at the Kemptville campus of the University of Guelph. The theme of the weekend, “Praying Congregations: the Heart of Christian Community” was developed by the keynote speaker, Jane E. Vennard, an ordained minister of the United Church of Christ, in her five talks: “Learning to Pray: Beliefs About Prayer”; “Experiencing Prayer: Expanding Our Understanding of Prayer; to Pray without Ceasing”; “Intercessory Prayer: Theology and Practice”; “Wordless Prayer: Praying With the Body, Entering Silence”; “Becoming a Praying Congregation: Where to Begin, How to Continue”.

The Ottawa Christian Meditation Committee was invited to bring a display to the conference to distribute information to the approximately 200 people who attended the conference and to answer any questions they might have about Christian Meditation. Jane Vennard made reference to the practice of Christian Meditation several times in the course of her talks, which may have helped pique further interest in our display. It was a most welcoming environment in which to spread the word about Christian Meditation.
