Seaway Area Christian Meditation Community Event

Welcoming

“Today, for the first time in Morrisburg, ‘East meets West!’” exclaimed the Robin Lane, the area coordinator, as she greeted members of the recently formed Seaway Area Meditation Community.

Morrisburg, situated along the Seaway, is midway between the eastern meditation group (Cornwall) and the western meditation groups in (Brockville)! The theme “All who thirst, come to the water” seemed appropriate as thirty persons celebrated the occasion. Guests included Ron and Jean Murray who have been instrumental in starting the first group in Morrisburg (the source).

Rev. Doug McKay, a member of the Morrisburg Group, spoke of his personal pilgrimage and of the joy he has discovered from the ”streams of living water” which flows from this newly discovered path of silent prayer. Doug quoted from John Main’s book: The Way of Unknowing “If we search within, embracing the discipline and rigour of the journey, we find far more quickly than we might imagine that the spring that Jesus speaks of does exist. The ‘spring of living water welling up to eternal life’ within us is most certainly there for all us to approach and for all of us to drink deeply from.’”

Suzanne Strader, also a member of the Morrisburg Group, spoke passionately about her 725 km pilgrimage along the Camino Path. Somehow Suzanne’s outstanding talk evoked emotions enabling the rest of us to feel that we were sharing in that same mystical path of silence, solitude and stillness. Suzanne’s story, and the video produced by her daughter, Julie, who also walked with her Mom, were inspiring and enriching.

Fellowship followed the presentation in the form of a delicious Pot Luck lunch. Interestingly enough, all meditators brought meatless dishes and selected the delicious cuisine of the Mediterranean such as humus and pita!

All agreed that this celebration provided an inspiring and thirst-quenching day!
